All donations to the Psychosocial Foundation 501(c)(3) are tax-deductible and go to supporting our activities. Donations can be ear-marked for any of our activities, including maintaining our space, supporting our clinicians, or the printing of Parapraxis, or donated to general operations.

The twin pillars of praxis and theory have always been our guiding mission at The Psychosocial Foundation. In 2026, we embarked on convening the Known and Elsewhere Collective, which will offer 150 hours of treatment at a low-fee (down to $1 per session) in Oakland monthly. We now offer our courses both in-person and online, and operate Parapraxis Books.

Five years ago, we began to dream up this therapeutic collective, through deep research and historical thinking. Through a generous gift from a private donor, we have secured our space in Uptown Oakland for five years. But to have the Known and Elsewhere Collective and our space be all they can be, and offer all they can to Oakland, we need your help.

Today we launch the Muriel Gardiners Campaign. Muriel Gardiner spent her fortune ensuring the future of a left psychoanalysis at one of its most perilous hours. A psychoanalyst in her own right and student of Freud’s, Gardiner is responsible for saving the lives and livelihoods of many of her comrades. Her story is singular–but this kind of financial support was very essential to the growth of left psychoanalysis in the twentieth century. It remains so.

We’ve gotten in the building, now help us use it, in service of us all, we are asking the community to make donations of any size, including those that repeat annually for the duration of five years. For those that do, we will send you limited edition Psychosocial Merch, and a hand-picked book from our collection, as a token of our gratitude.
