Louis-Georges Schwartz Sessions:This is a class on the writings of Joshua Clover (December 30, 1962 – April 26, 2025). We will read his work on politics, poetry, music, and film. Joshua Clover left us with a mass of writing to help us think through and act against our devastating political moment. We will discus poems from his three published poetry collections, extracts from his book of pop music criticism 1989: Bob Dylan Didn't Have This to Sing About, a few film reviews, Riot Strike Riot, and his notes for an unpublished project entitled Value Theory at the End of the World. This class will mourn Joshua, and our pathological society, by reading him carefully. It’s my hope that by thinking through these texts, we might develop plans and affects adequate to the current crisis.
Louis-Georges Schwartz is a communist. He taught film studies at several US universities for about 30 years before dereliction of his post. Currently he works as a nonfiction writer and lives a life of destitution with two dogs. You can read more of him at Commidharma on Substack.
